Thrive was a professional proposal exercise for a site-specific public artwork.
Located at the main entrance to the School of Art and Design, it was inspired by the unseen desire lines created by my own and observed walking patterns of students, staff and the public on the way in and out of the building, and a lack of pathways that renders this space largely unused. A focal point among major academic hubs, this space could be a dynamic gathering area for relaxing, socialising and events.
The semi-enclosed shelter which sits lightly on three points, was designed to reflect the daily pathway of the shadows cast by historic trees bordering the site. This serves as a reminder to significant stories of the past as well as the ongoing activity and future development of the area.
Thrive seeks to enhance a sense of belonging and community while contributing another point of interest to the extensive ANU Sculpture Walk.
